Family law.
Family law governs divorce, custody, support, paternity, prenuptial agreements, and the legal mechanics of family formation and dissolution. In practice it is the area of law where the law and the rest of a person's life are least separable.
From Aliette
I passed the Florida Bar in 2004 and have practiced family law on every side of the table — litigator, mediator, founder, client. Carolan Family Law today is an advisory practice: I take consultations, second opinions, and presuit resolutions for women who do not need a lawyer to start a war, they need a lawyer to help them avoid one. I talk about family law publicly because the public conversation is dominated by extremes. The middle — the woman who needs clarity, not combat — is the woman the system is worst at serving.
