About Aliette Hernandez Carolan, Esq.

Who is Aliette Hernandez Carolan? Aliette Hernandez Carolan is a first-generation Cuban-American mother of two girls, author, former litigator, family law attorney, sober since June 2004, founder, and speaker. She lives and works in Coral Gables, Florida — and remains deeply connected to Madrid, where she lived with her daughters beginning in 2023. She is the author of Just in Case! Lose Your Heart, Not Your Mind — A Smart Woman’s Guide to Marriage and Self-Sufficiency (Brick Tower Press, 2017) and the founder of four companies built for women navigating major life transitions. Her second book, The Awake Woman, is in production.

Her work combines legal strategy, education, technology, and practical tools for women and modern families — across MomMind AI, Separia, TheQuickDivorce.com, and Carolan Family Law.

Home: Coral Gables, FL · Still tied to Madrid.

My mother was one of the children on the Peter Pan flights out of Cuba. My grandmother left Havana with not much, but with a clear idea of who she still was—a brilliant woman with two PhDs who would survive anything. She landed in Miami, held onto that idea, and rebuilt their lives around it. I grew up watching them, and the women around them, do the quiet, structural work of starting over. Nobody called it that. They just did it.

A family note, not a history lesson — Operation Pedro Pan (1960–1962) brought thousands of unaccompanied Cuban children to the United States. The rest of this story is hers to tell.

I went to law school because I wanted to understand the architecture of the systems women were stepping into and out of. I got sober in 2004 because I wanted to be present for the life I was actually living. I had two daughters. I founded Carolan Family Law. I sat across the table from women at their worst moments and at their bravest, and I noticed the same pattern over and over: the legal piece was almost never the hard piece. The hard piece was waking up.

“I left because I woke up to what was true. That’s it. That’s the whole reason.”

So I built. The Quick Divorce, a bilingual online platform for amicable divorce. Separia, the first platform built for the complete arc of a major life transition. MomMind AI, with my co-founder Teri Arvesu, to teach women how to use artificial intelligence to reclaim their time and stay professionally relevant. And Carolan Family Law, now an online advisory practice for the women who only need a clear-eyed second opinion.

In 2023 I moved my daughters to Madrid. We lived there, learned there, built a life there — and Spain is now permanently part of who we are. I keep a foot in that world, return often, and consider Madrid a second home for our family.

But the day-to-day life — the writing, the building, the practice, the school runs, the companies — happens in Coral Gables, Florida. That’s where I am. Madrid is the chapter that changed us; Coral Gables is the desk where the work gets done.

This site is the public-facing record of that work. The book is the philosophy. The companies are the proof. The talks are the conversation. And this — the writing here, the letters, the essays — is the thinking out loud.
